A Manifesto for Reimagining Game Design Through Feminist Perspective

Zilu Tang

Where are the hidden rules of power in our play? Who gets to speak in games, and who is always spoken about? Whose pain becomes plot? Whose labor goes unseen? Why is violence normalized, but care considered a design risk?
Feminism is a range of socio-political movements and ideologies that aim to define and establish the political, economic, personal, and social equality of the sexes. "Feminist everything" is not about adding women into broken systems – it's about redesigning the system from the ground up. It reimagines power, prioritizes relationality, and builds ethics into interaction—not just aesthetics.

Feminist perspective in game design is not a theme, but a practice of constant questioning.
